Outlook: UMBC has lost its first three games against three local teams, the most recent being Wednesday night's 67-31 defeat at Maryland -- the Retrievers' lowest point total since moving up to the Division I level 11 years ago. UMBC lost to Central Connecticut last season, 63-62, but leads the series 9-4. The Blue Devils are led by senior G Dwhawn Edwards at 19.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 5.5 apg. This is their best start since the 1986-87 season, their first in Division I.

Boston University (2-1) at Towson State (2-3)

Outlook: Boston is the favorite to win America East and it brings the league's best player in 6-7 senior F Tunji Awojobi, an NBA prospect who had 40 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks in two games against Towson State last season. The Tigers are coming off Tuesday night's 80-74 loss at Pennsylvania. They defeated Boston at home last year, 93-71, and lost on the road, 68-56.

Coppin State (0-1) at Nebraska (3-1)

Site: Devaney Center, Lincoln, Neb.

Outlook: The winner of this opening-round game of the Ameritas Classic plays Bowling Green or Colgate. Coppin is coming off a loss to another Big 12 school, Oklahoma, 88-64 last Saturday. Senior F Reggie Welch has been reinstated after missing the opener because of a violation of team academic rules. Nebraska has out-rebounded its opponents by an average of more than 11 per game, and five players are scoring in double figures, led by sophomore G Tyronn Lue (19.0 ppg, 5.8 apg).
