Man sentenced to 15 months in attempted robbery

December 05, 1996

A Carroll County judge yesterday sentenced a Gaithersburg man to 15 months in prison for dragging a woman across a Mount Airy parking lot during an attempted robbery last December.

Circuit Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. suspended all but 15 months of a five-year prison term against Rodney W. Seabolt Jr., 20. Burns declined to suspend the entire term because of Seabolt's convictions in Montgomery and Frederick counties on theft and weapons charges.

The judge said that a Mount Airy woman was injured during the attempted robbery in a shopping center parking lot, and that the circumstances might have been worse if the strap on her purse had not broken.

Burns placed Seabolt on three years of probation after his release from the Carroll County Detention Center, and ordered that he undergo drug and alcohol treatment, as deemed necessary by the Division of Parole and Probation.
