Terps dominate Howard, 71-49 State women

Three players scored in double figures as the Maryland women defeated Howard, 71-49, in the championship game of the Brother Holiday Tournament yesterday at Rutgers University New Brunswick, N.J.

The Terps (3-1) scored the first 13 points. Howard (1-2) later went on a 10-0 run but Maryland still led 41-19 at the half.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Stephanie Cross and Kelley Gibson each scored 14 for the Terps. Howard's Alisha Hill, also selected to the all-tournament team, scored a game-high 19.

UMBC 78, Delaware State 56: The Retrievers (1-3) raced to an 8-2 lead and never trailed as they won the consolation game of the UMBC Invitational at UMBC Fieldhouse.

Kendra Damann scored a game-high 19 and Monica Logan had 16 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and five blocks. Karen Johnson scored 14 for the Hornets (0-3).
