New principal, assistant principals announced

Nancy Esmond, assistant principal at Thunder Hill Elementary School, will become the principal of Bushy Park Elementary School next month, Howard County schools Superintendent Michael E. Hickey has announced.

Esmond will replace Philip Arbaugh, who is to retire at the end of this month.

Hickey also announced two other administrative changes last week. They include:

Diane Martin, a teacher at Jeffers Hill Elementary School, will become assistant principal at Thunder Hill.

Brenda Thomas, a teacher at Elkridge Landing Middle School, will become acting assistant principal at Hammond Middle School.

Public meetings planned on boundary lines

The county public school system will hold two public meetings on boundary line adjustments next month.

Schools that are projected to be over capacity or under the minimum enrollments defined in the boundary-lines policy, and redistricting alternatives will be discussed.

The meetings will be conducted in two groupings of schools.

The first group will meet at 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday in the Centennial High School auditorium. It will involve those interested in the following schools:

High schools: Atholton, Centennial, Glenelg, Mount Hebron and River Hill.

Middle schools: Burleigh Manor, Clarksville, Dunloggin, Glenwood, Mount View and Patapsco.

Elementary schools: Bushy Park, Centennial Lane, Clarksville, Lisbon, Manor Woods, Northfield, Pointers Run, St. John's Lane, Waverly and West Friendship.

The second group will meet at 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hammond High School auditorium. It will involve those interested in the following schools:

High schools: Hammond, Long Reach, Wilde Lake, Howard and Oakland Mills.

Middle schools: Elkridge Landing, Hammond, Mayfield Woods, Owen Brown, Wilde Lake, Ellicott Mills, Harper's Choice, Oakland Mills and Patuxent Valley.

Elementary schools: Atholton, Bryant Woods, Dasher Green, Elkridge, Guilford, Ilchester, Laurel Woods, Phelps Luck, Running Brook, Stevens Forest, Thunder Hill, Worthington, Bollman Bridge, Clemens Crossing, Deep Run, Forest Ridge, Hammond, Jeffers Hill, Longfellow, Rockburn, Swansfield, Talbott Springs and Waterloo.
