Today's game

November 28, 1996

Washington (8-4) at Dallas (7-5)

Time: 4 p.m, chs. 45, 5

Line: Cowboys by 8 1/2

Vs. spread: Redskins 9-3; Cowboys 5-7.

Last week: Redskins lost to 49ers in overtime, 19-16. Cowboys lost to Giants, 20-6.

Outlook: Victory by Cowboys could tighten things up considerably in NFC East, where four teams are separated by two games in standings. Emmitt Smith is hobbled by bad ankle and Cowboys' offense doesn't run as smoothly without him at full strength. Redskins are coming off difficult loss and have dropped three of four since 7-1 start. Bad news for Washington: Cowboys are 19-8-1 on Thanksgiving, including 4-0 vs. Redskins.

By the numbers: Redskins have scored on 37 of 38 trips inside opponent's 20-yard line. Cowboys' Chris Boniol has made 21 consecutive field-goal attempts.

Injuries:

REDSKINS: Out: T Ed Simmons (knee). Questionable: S Darryl Morrison (neck), DE Sterling Palmer (knee). Probable: CB Darrell Green (ankle), DE Dexter Nottage (knee), WR Leslie Shepherd (ankle), P Matt Turk (back)

COWBOYS: Out: DE Charles Haley (back), S Brock Marion (shoulder), TE Jay Novacek (back). Questionable: TE Eric Bjornson (ankle); DE Shante Carver (knee). Probable: WR Billy Davis (quadriceps), RB Emmitt Smith (ankle).
