Navy outlasts Gonzaga, 58-55, to win tourney State women

Adria Schneck scored 24 points and Becky Dowling had a double double as the Navy women's basketball team captured the Gate City Shootout Tournament championship yesterday in Pocatello, Idaho, with a 58-55 win over Gonzaga.

Schneck, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, hit two free throws to tie the game at 55 with 1: 47 left in the game. Joanne Groth gave the Mids (2-0) the lead to stay with a put-back with just 44 seconds left.

Dowling finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Johns Hopkins 65, William Paterson 64: Junior guard Angie Arnold scored five of her 19 points in the final two minutes to lift Johns Hopkins over William Paterson in the championship game of the Blue Jay Classic. The Pioneers led by as many as 14 points in the second half.

Mount St. Mary's 73, Radford 58: Amy Longville scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Mount to a season-opening win over the host Highlanders (0-2).

Megan Gardiner added 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half, and eight rebounds, while Nikki Schroyer contributed 12 points.

Lebanon Valley 72, St. Mary's 44: Serenity Roos came off the bench to score 16 points and lead the Flying Dutchmen (1-1) to victory in the consolation game of the Franklin & Marshall Tipoff Tournament. St. Mary's shot 23.9 percent for the game.
