Livingston named bank's chief lending officer

The Bank of Glen Burnie has appointed Michael Livingston chief lending officer. He will administer all residential and commercial loan department functions and develop new lending programs and products for the Anne Arundel-based community bank. A graduate of the University of Maryland, the Severn resident is an active member of the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce. Allied Investment Advisors announced the selection of N. Beth Volk as a principal in the firm. Volk will focus on credit analysis and corporate bond selection in the firm's fixed income group. Formerly with Alex. Brown & Sons and Loomis, Saylers & Co. of Boston, she is an MBA graduate of the University of Virginia. Volk is also a member of the Network 2000 finance committee. Monumental Life Insurance Co. has chosen Susan Reier for the post of vice president, home service administration. She was a second vice president of customer service. Before joining the Baltimore-based insurer, she was a manager with Citibank and was last assigned to its national service center.

The Towson State University graduate is active in community affairs with Meals On Wheels and the Alzheimer's Association.

New positions

Crown names Jan L. Ries as corporate controller

Crown Central Petroleum Corp. announced the appointment of Jan L. Ries as corporate controller, having direct supervision of all accounting functions of the company. With Crown since 1988, he was formerly with UniMarts/Unico Corp.

A Cockeysville resident, Ries graduated from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Fitness center appoints Cingle wellness director

Maryland Athletic Club & Wellness Center has chosen Laurie Cingle for the position of wellness director. Before joining the Timonium-based fitness center, she was the health and fitness director with the Chicago-based Gold Coast Multiplex.

Cingle is a certified health and fitness and aerobics instructor and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Association for Fitness in Business and other professional organizations.

Travel agency picks Groppe for sales, marketing roles

Travel Concepts International named Dolores Groppe an account representative, with responsibility for group and incentive travel sales, and marketing to the metropolitan Baltimore business community. A communications graduate of Towson State University, she is an accredited cruise counselor.

Caterer hires Blaustein as account executive

Simply Elegant Catering named Shelly Blaustein to its staff as an account executive. She will be responsible for off-site sales and on-site events at its recently acquired Grey Rock Mansion on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. Before joining the Owings Mills-based catering house, Blaustine was a sales assistant with Martin's West.


Podmijersky to join physical rehab office

Towson Physical Rehabilitation appointed Dr. Sue Ellen Podmijersky clinical director of its office at the Merritt Athletic Club.


James Posey taps Johnson for marketing directorship

James Posey Associates announced that Lara Johnson has joined the Baltimore-based regional consulting engineering firm as marketing director. She was formerly vice president of Columbus, Ohio-based management and marketing adviser RWA Inc. A member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, she is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology. Gross, Mendelsohn & Associates, accountants, management and financial consultants, has named James J. Kern a principal of the Baltimore-based firm assigned to its litigation support department. A business graduate of Towson State University, he has been with the firm since 1981.
