Timothy A. Dixon joins law firm in Baltimore

Timothy A. Dixon, a Carroll County native, has joined the Baltimore law practice of Blum, Yumkas, Mailman, Gutman & Denick.

After graduating magna cum laude from Morehouse College, he received his law degree from New York University. He was assistant district attorney in Westchester and Queens counties, New York, for several years.

Dixon also was a law enforcement attorney with the New York City Commission on Human Rights.

After returning to Baltimore in 1990, Dixon was an assistant city solicitor in Baltimore.

Wal-Mart to donate portion of sales to food pantry

Wal-Mart of Westminster will donate a portion of its store sales from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday to charity as its annual gift to the community.

Store associates selected Carroll County Food Sunday to be the recipient of its annual Thanksgiving weekend fund-raiser.

This is the fourth year for the Thanksgiving "holiday sales to local charities" program.

Realtor to take offerings in Toys for Tots program

Long & Foster Realtors offices in Carroll County will be collection sites for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program through Dec. 16.

Once the toys are collected and given to the Marines, they will be distributed through churches and social agencies to the neediest children in the region.

Landscaping company wins five awards

Chapel Valley Landscape Co. of Woodbine recently earned five awards in the Landscape Contractors Association's Excellence in Landscape competition.

The company received two Grand Awards for a residence in Washington in the residential maintenance and total residential contracting categories.

It won two Distinction Awards for residences in suburban Maryland in the front residential planting and entrance-way category, and in the outdoor living area category.

A residence in Vienna, Va., earned an honorable mention in the residential maintenance category.

Union National approved by SBA to make loans

Union National Bank has been approved by the Small Business Administration as a certified lender of guaranteed small business loans.

SBA helps small-business owners qualify for loans that they might not qualify for due to a collateral shortfall. The owners will have a better chance of being approved and in a shorter period of time than previously.
