An airport development group told the Carroll County commissioners last week that they could build an airport for $150,065. That figure is $445,435 less than an estimate for a similar airport contained in a report to the commissioners from their consulting engineers. "I feel the county needs an airport for the proper economic development of the county," Mr. Meyer said. "Aviation is just like TV. It's here to stay." -- Democratic Advocate, Nov. 29, 1971.

"Vetville" may become a most interesting suburban addition to Westminster when it is completed about the first of the year. This is the proposed name for the settlement on Wimert Avenue, near the Sullivan road, that is under construction by the government for the GIs who are attending or will attend Western Maryland College under the GI Bill of Rights. The apartments are made up of living room, two bedrooms, two closets and a kitchen, to be fully equipped with sink, stove and refrigerator. After the educational use has expired for the houses, speculation remains as to what will become of them. -- Democratic Advocate, Nov. 29, 1946.

The barn and outbuildings of Dr. J. Rinehart, at Frizellburg, were burned between 9 and 10 o'clock on Tuesday night. Nearly all the contents, except the horses, were destroyed. The neighbors gathered quickly and the ringing of the church bell brought a very large crowd to the rescue. -- Democratic Advocate, Nov. 28, 1896.
