Signatures are sought for charter petition

November 22, 1996

Carroll County Citizens for Charter Government will collect signatures at three locations tomorrow.

Signers are asking the County Commissioners to appoint a charter-writing board and to send the question of charter government to a referendum vote by county residents. If successful, the movement would change the local form of government from three commissioners to a county executive and county council. The citizens group has collected about 1,300 of the nearly 4,000 signatures needed.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will be at Westminster post office, 83 E. Main St.

From 10 a.m. to noon, they will be at Finksburg Plaza on Route 140.

From noon to 4 p.m., they will be at the Giant Food store on Route 32 in Eldersburg.

Petitions also are available at all eight town halls. Information: 795-1159.
