Firefighter charged in third fire

November 19, 1996

A Montgomery County firefighter accused of burning a car and an unoccupied house in Mount Airy last week has been charged in a barn fire, state fire marshals said.

Troy D. Murdock, 23, of Mount Airy was free on $50,000 bond Friday after he turned himself over to authorities on the latest charge. He will remain free on bond until his trial.

Fire marshals said Judith A. White of the 3700 block of Boteler Road in Mount Airy went to her barn about 6: 10 p.m. Tuesday and detected a strong odor of gasoline. She discovered the glass doors to the rear of the barn were charred and remnants of a burned cloth on the floor. Damage was estimated at $500, fire marshals said.
