5 treated after exposure to potent cleaning fluid

A dry-cleaning employee and four Howard County firefighters were exposed to a potent cleaning fluid Friday morning at Enchanted Forest Cleaners in Ellicott City.

About 8 a.m., 2 gallons of a solvent used to clean clothing accidentally was spilled in the store in the 10300 block of U.S. 40.

An employee was knocked unconscious after he slipped in the liquid as he tried to clean the floor, firefighters said. He was taken to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, where he was treated and released.

Four firefighters exposed to the fluid as they helped the man from the spill were treated at Howard County General Hospital and released.
