Running backs

Bam Morris and Earnest Byner ran well but never enjoyed a passing game to complement their rushing. Anybody seen fullback Carwell Gardner lately?

C

Quarterbacks

Vinny Testaverde wasn't playing that well before he was sent to the locker room with bruised ribs and a hip pointer. Eric Zeier looked like someone who had not played all season. He telegraphed passes and looked nervous in the pocket.

D

Receivers

Not a great day for this group because Testaverde and Zeier were a little off, and there were timing problems with Zeier. The tight ends need to stop getting senseless penalties that hurt drives.

C

Offensive line

The Ravens gave up five sacks, way too many for this group even though the team had to pass often in the second half. They did a nice job handling tackles Dana Stubblefield and Bryant Young, but didn't handle the linebackers and had several offside penalties. A subpar performance.

D

Defensive line

The team still hasn't had much of a pass-rushing threat. The group started out slow, but seemed to pick up the pace in the second and third quarters.

C-

Linebackers

Outside linebacker Mike Croel hustled all over the field to lead the team in tackles with nine. Inside linebacker Mike Caldwell was solid but not spectacular. The group is starting to have a presence on the field.

C+

Secondary

The 49ers didn't challenge the cornerbacks deep often, but Donny Brady played well and Dorian Brew may work his way into the starting lineup. Safeties Stevon Moore and Eric Turner played with a lot more confidence in their cornerbacks.

C+

Special teams

Kicker Matt Stover made two field-goal attempts, but Greg Montgomery averaged only 39.4 yards per punt. The kickoff coverage team held the 49ers to 63 yards on four returns.
