Nearby ski areas boast several improvements

From lodging to ski equipment to exotic terrain, four ski areas in the Baltimore region -- Ski Liberty, Ski Roundtop, Whitetail and Wisp -- are expected to prove cutting-edge this season with expansions and new features to wow you.

Baltimore. Half-day programs: $50-$75; full-day programs: $60- $75; child care: $4-$6 per hour or $28-$38 for a full day that includes lunch and snacks; daily adult lift tickets: $30-$42; rental equipment: $20-$25. (717) 328-9400.


Wisp offers parabolic skis and 400 feet of half-pipe for snowboarders. Its Rossignol Winter Adventure Center presents an alternative to traditional alpine skiing with rentals available to guests who would like instruction on parabolic skis and snowboards. Wisp offers a buy-one-get-one-free deal on full-day adult tickets purchased on Mondays (except holidays).

Wisp also will stage competitive events for skiers and snowboarders throughout the season and will play host to the Maryland Special Olympics Winter Games Feb. 23-25.
