Severna Park's Amy Noble (lacrosse) and Mercy's Shannon Cohen (basketball) have signed national letters of intent to attend Duke and Loyola, respectively.

An honorable-mention All-American, Noble scored 38 goals and had six assists last spring as a midfielder for the No. 4 Falcons. She is also an All-Metro field hockey player, who had 29 goals and eight assists this season to lead her team to the state final earlier this week.

Cohen, a second-team All-Metro 5-foot-5 point guard, led the 11th-ranked Magic in scoring (17.9) and assists (6.0) last season and went over 1,000 career points.

With Cohen leading the way, the Magic went 18-10 after posting a 7-20 mark the previous season. She also played for the Maryland Hurricanes 16-and-under team that finished second in last summer's national Amateur Athletic Union tournament.

The University of South Carolina announced the signing of Recus Nix, a 6-4 guard from Allegany Community College.

Wednesday was the first day of the one-week, early-signing period of NCAA letters of intent for high school seniors and junior college sophomores accepting scholarships for basketball and several other sports.
