MILFORD MILL — A certified public accountant from Gaithersburg was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore to a year in prison for failing to file his income tax returns, the U.S. attorney's office said yesterday.

Gerald D. Strong of the 8800 Brink Road, a former partner at Coopers and Lybrand, was found guilty in July of failing to file tax returns from 1989 to 1991. District Judge Herbert N. Maletz ordered that his prison term be followed by one year of supervised release.

At his trial, prosecutors introduced evidence that showed Strong had a gross income totaling $1,207,286 and taxes due of $265,321 for the three years he failed to file returns.

Tucker to speak at Women's Day service

C. Delores Tucker, who leads the National Political Congress of Black Women, will be the 12th Annual Women's Day Speaker for the 11 a.m. service tomorrow at Rising Sun First Baptist Church.

Tucker, a former secretary of state in Pennsylvania, has sharply criticized violent and sexually explicit lyrics in rap music.

Man found fatally shot in Jeep near school

A 35-year-old Baltimore County man was found fatally shot late Thursday sitting in his Jeep that was parked near Lakeland Elementary/Middle School in South Baltimore, police said yesterday.

James Leroy Deitz, of the 3700 block of Songbird Circle, about one mile south of the shooting site, was pronounced dead at the scene.

MILFORD MILL -- Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of Donna Lee Blalock, 37, of no fixed address, who was found in a car she was driving that knocked down a pole in the 3600 block of Rockdale Terrace in Milford Mill shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday.

She had a bullet wound to the chest, police said.
