Priest-physicist to lecture on Bible, science relationship

Priest and physicist Stanley L. Jaki is one of the chief contributors to the Roman Catholic Church's recent statement that physical evolution is "more than just a theory" and is compatible with the Roman Catholic faith.

On Monday, Jaki will lecture on the Bible and its relation to science at 6: 30 p.m. in the Marion Burk Knott Auditorium at Mount St. Mary's College and Seminary in Emmitsburg.

The world-class scholar is one of 17 Americans who serve on the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

Jaki attended the commission's annual meeting Oct. 23 in Rome when Pope John Paul II made the statement, which supports Darwin's theory of evolution but also recognizes that creation itself is the work of God.

Much of the scholarship for the Pope's stance is attributable to the research and writings of Jaki.
