More Champagne

First it was Champagne Tony's in Federal Hill. Then it was Champagne Tony's in the Belvedere. Now Champagne Tony a.k.a. Pauli Santi has left the Belvedere to open a new bar and grill, Santi's (3321 Eastern Blvd., [410] 391-2725). The restaurant, which should open by the end of the month, will feature homestyle cooking plus imaginative Italian dishes. Prices will range from $5 to $14.

Meanwhile Champagne Tony's in the Belvedere has a new chef, Sean Haase, who comes from the Wild Mushroom in Canton. The menu has been redone, but it's still Mediterranean; and there's a new wine list with 250 California and Italian wines.

Expanding City Cafe

John "Tip" Carter has left the Belvedere group of restaurants to become the chef at the newly expanded City Cafe at 1001 Cathedral St., (He's also worked at the Harbor Court and at Michael Rork's Town Dock in St. Michaels.) The cafe, which recently expanded into the space next door, is now more than a coffee house. Still open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it has a full menu at dinner, table service and a liquor license.

The menu changes weekly but usually features pastas, grilled pTC fish, blackened steak, chicken piccata and casual food like oversized hamburgers. Full breakfasts are served Saturday and Sunday.

Rethinking Milton Inn

Change is in the wind for the Milton Inn in Sparks. Chef Robert Taylor feels limited by the current prix fixe menu, even in its modified and fairly flexible form. At present the inn offers seven courses; the price is $35 for two courses, plus $7 for each additional one. The fixed price makes it hard to offer less expensive entrees, such as chicken. (Or more expensive ones.) Look for a return to a la carte pricing, probably by Thanksgiving.
