Glyndon man is charged in robbery

Hampstead police charged a Glyndon man yesterday with armed robbery, felony assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and reckless endangerment in an Oct. 16 robbery of the High's store, 901 S. Main St.

A detainer for Paul Hamby, 32, is on file with authorities in Baltimore County, where Hamby is being held on similar charges.

Young dancers chosen for 'Nutcracker' parts

Two Hampstead dancers, Ashley Smith, 11, and Shelby Schestag, 12, recently were selected to dance with the Moscow Ballet Company in a production of "The Nutcracker."

The girls are students at North Carroll Middle School and are taking dance classes at Towson State University children's division and Rhythm and Shoes dance studio in Hampstead.

The shows will be held Dec. 5 to Dec. 8 at the Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore.

Tickets range from $20 to $35.


Manchester: Firefighters from Lineboro and New Freedom, Pa., assisted Manchester at 3: 48 p.m. Wednesday, responding to a chimney fire in the 4500 block of Wilders Run Lane. Units were out one hour and 10 minutes.
