November 05, 1996

A Westminster man who was arrested Saturday on drug charges after police received a tip that he was trying to sell crack cocaine is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $25,000 bail.

Steve D. Cottom, 20, of the first block of Kemper Ave. was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of paraphernalia and carrying a dangerous and deadly weapon.

Police said they stopped Cottom, who was driving in the 100 block of Charles St., and seized an estimated $1,200 in crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a homemade knife.

Cottom was arrested June 29 after police reported finding 10 uncut grams of cocaine in a car stopped for speeding in Sykesville. Cottom and the driver were charged in that incident, police said.

Cottom was indicted on charges of possession of cocaine in the June incident. He was held on $100,000 bail but freed July 31 on an unsecured reduced bond of $20,000. He is awaiting trial in that incident.
