Disability project fund-raiser may top $10,000 this year

At least $10,000 was raised for the disAbility Awareness Project, a countywide program that educates students about handicaps, during a fund-raiser last Mondayat Hunan Manor Restaurant in Columbia.

By Friday, $10,000 in receipts had been counted, Anne Wade, dAP coordinator, said.

The restaurant on Deepage Drive in Owen Brown village closed to hold a dinner for dAP fund-raisers. Hunan Manor donates all proceeds to the project. Restaurant workers work free that evening.

The project was created in 1979 to educate teachers and students about disabilities.
