1993 Copertino Riserva, Cantina Sociale Cooperativa...

Wine of the week

November 03, 1996|By Michael Dresser

1993 Copertino Riserva, Cantina Sociale Cooperativa ($9.49).

I'll admit it. In 14 years of writing about wine I had never heard oCopertino. The only listing I could find in my extensive wine library says it is made from the negroamaro grape in Apulia, in southeast Italy. All you need to know, however, is that the Copertino is a delightful, medium-bodied red wine with gripping black-cherry fruit, bright acidity, terrific fragrance, impressive length and a reasonable price tag. Co-ops aren't generally known for great quality, but this is a wonderful exception.
