Homemade food, crafts offered at area events this weekend

IT'S ANOTHER SATURDAY filled with opportunities to shop till you drop or pig out on delicious homemade food at three local happenings this weekend.

Chesapeake High School Band Boosters will have its annual holiday craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school.

Nearly 200 crafts people have signed up to sell their creations. Food and refreshments will be on sale. Admission is free.

Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item that will be donated to a local food bank. Free child care will be available.

At 7 a.m., the doors will open at Jenkins Memorial Church in Riviera Beach for the second annual apple festival.

A flea market will kick off the event, followed at 8 a.m. by an a la carte breakfast featuring apple pancakes.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. The menu includes homemade turkey noodle soup, barbecue, hot dogs and apple desserts. Don't forget to check out a crowd favorite -- apple butter.

Members are gathering at the church early this morning to begin cooking and stirring the apple butter. If you're near Riviera Beach today, you can stop by and give a stir.

Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.

Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, will have its annual ham and oyster supper from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $10 for adults and carryouts. Dinner for children ages 7 to 12 is $6 and for those ages 3 to 6 is $3. Children younger than age 3 can eat free.

The dinner consists of three padded oysters and all the ham and vegetables you can eat. Dessert and refreshments are included.

Church members will sell homemade cakes and candies, white elephant items, fancy work and crafts.

Proceeds will benefit church projects.

Business group to meet

Pasadena Business Association will have its membership meeting at noon Wednesday at Nabbs Creek Cafe.

The speaker will be Lee Smith from Annapolis National Bank, who will present an overview of the Small Business Administration loan process.

The cost is $10 with reservation or $15 at the door. The deadline for reservations is today.
