Katherine Knowles has been named managing director of the Columbia Festival, effective Nov. 1, 1997. She served as acting director of the American Festival Project and before that was senior program officer of the National Endowment for the Arts Dance Program. Richard McCauley, president of the Festival's board of trustees, announced the appointment.
