Perry Hall's boys team captured its 11th straight Baltimore County championship and Dulaney's top-ranked girls coasted to their sixth straight county crown in a picturesque setting yesterday at Hereford High.
Second-ranked Perry Hall couldn't crack the top two spots in the boys race, but the Gators stillput six runners in the top 10.
Dulaney sophomore Greg Vincent won the 3.1-mile boys race in 17 minutes, 8 seconds, and teammate Shawn Sullivan fought through his fatigue and finished second in 17: 35.
Girls race
Jen Geroux kept alive the winning tradition that defending boys champion Joe Smith established last season for Parkville by winning the girls race in 20: 08.
"I mentally prepared myself for today," said Geroux, a junior who played soccer last fall.
Meghan White, recently named the state's Wendy's High School Heisman Award winner, led the Lions with a runner-up finish. Then came teammates Marjorie Bollinger, Bianca Jay, Meredith Fellman and Tini Wagner (third through sixth), Sara Hooper (eighth) and Holly Zahner (ninth).
Perry Hall sophomore Lacey Chanoski was seventh.
Hereford pulled off a surprising second in the girls team competition, finishing 54 points behind Dulaney and 14 ahead of third-place Perry Hall (88).
Boys race
Kirk Bouffard and Omar Knight took third and fourth for Perry Hall's boys, and Mark Coyle, Cody Green, Cory Green and Matt Hester finished sixth through eighth, respectively, for the Gators, who won by 50 points.
Sullivan set a brutal pace through the first half of the boys race, but it came back to haunt him and help teammate Vincent.
"I kept thinking at the beginning, 'Slow down,' but I got caught with the adrenalin. When I got to the top of the hill, I couldn't feel my arms," said Sullivan, whose team finished second ahead of Hereford (92) and Towson (99) with 70 points.
Shawn Gaver of Towson (sixth) and Patrick Tyrrell of Hereford (10th) were the only two non-Perry Hall or Dulaney runners to break into the top 10.
