Two Carroll County men are facing multiple charges stemming from an argument that began in a Westminster pool hall Saturday night and ended with gunshots and a car crash.

Westminster police officers arrested Scott I. Hayes, 31, of the 100 block of Franklin Ave. in Sykesville, and Brian E. Jahnigen, 19, of the first block of Sullivan Ave. in Westminster.

In charging documents, police said two men began arguing with three men and a woman at a pool hall on Route 27 and that all six were ordered to leave.

The dispute resumed on Sullivan Avenue where, police say, one of the men rammed his car into a 1985 Mustang being driven by one of the alleged victims, who were not identified by police.

According to police, the man was armed with a knife and tried to cut two men and punched the woman.

Police said the other man ran to a nearby apartment and came back with a 12-gauge shotgun.

The three men and the woman told police they heard shots, but no one was injured. They pointed to an apartment where they thought the two men had gone, and the two were arrested there.

Jahnigen was freed on $10,000 bond. He is charged with three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, five counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of possessing a dangerous and deadly weapon with intent to injure and one count of malicious destruction.

Hayes was charged with three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment and three counts of possessing a dangerous and deadly weapon with intent to injure.

He was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Damage to the Mustang was estimated at $1,500, police said.
