Fantasy watch

October 11, 1996

Some tips this week for fantasy football players:

Players to keep

QB Elvis Grbac, 49ers: San Francisco is 23-9-1 since 1981 in games started by backup quarterbacks.

QB Jeff Blake, Bengals: Posted a 144.3 quarterback rating in past two games against Steelers.

QB Mark Brunell, Jaguars: Has five touchdown passes in past three games, which could be a single-game total facing the hapless Jets.

RB Thurman Thomas, Bills: Has six 100-yard rushing efforts against the Dolphins, second most by a Miami opponent.

Players to sit down

RB LeShon Johnson, Cardinals: Hot streak should end abruptly vs. Cowboys, the top-rated defense in the NFL.

RB Ricky Watters, Eagles: Might be contained by the Giants, who haven't allowed an offensive touchdown in their past eight quarters.
