A Baltimore insurance agent pleaded guilty to two counts of theft yesterday in Baltimore County Circuit Court for stealing nearly $18,000 from two insurance agencies, the Maryland attorney general's office said.

Mark A. Grier admitted to stealing $2,221.24 from Baltimore Life Insurance Co. and $15,727.27 from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co.

An investigation revealed that Grier fraudulently endorsed 12 checks issued by Home Beneficial Life to its policy holders or beneficiaries and deposited them into his checking account.
