Fall brings festivals, fairs, flea markets and food

THE OUTDOOR FALL bazaar/fair/festival season is in full swing in Pasadena.

Visit one, or make the rounds. The choice is up to you.

The parish of St. Jane Frances de Chantal is sponsoring its annual three-day fall festival starting this evening on the church grounds, 8499 Virginia Ave. in Riviera Beach.

Festival hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. today, noon to 11 p.m. tomorrow and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Carnival rides and games will be set up outside. More games, bingo and a used book sale will be held inside the school hall.

To help stretch the budget, the festival will have ride-all-you want-for-one-price discount periods from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Coupons good for an additional discount are available from local merchants.

Hungry visitors can dine on pit beef and ham, barbecue, deep-fried onions, sausage and peppers, hot dogs, pizza and beverages.

A silent auction offering a variety of goods and services and three raffles will be held. Raffle prizes include $1,000, a (x handmade wishing well and a home security alarm system with monitoring.

Proceeds will benefit St. Jane Frances School.

Fall festival

Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road, will have its annual fall festival from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Events will include games for children, free balloons, grab bags, crafts, a silent auction to benefit the church's youth group, a bake table and a flea market area open from 8 a.m. to noon.

A breakfast of eggs or pancakes with sausage will be served starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $4.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. Pit beef sandwiches also will be on sale.

Proceeds will benefit the church and its missions.

Flea market

The Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 277 will have a flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the post home on Carbide and Pittman roads.

Tables are available for $8. Food and refreshments will be sold.

Fire prevention

Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company will have a Fire Prevention Open House from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the firehouse.

Bring the family to view fire and medical equipment displays and police dog demonstrations, watch an auto extrication, learn how to use a fire extinguisher and get medical screenings or a child-print video.

The county's new Fire Safety House will be open so that children can experience real-life hazards such as smoke and heat and learn how to safely escape from a fire emergency.

Winners of local school essay and poster contests will be recognized at 1: 30 p.m.

No parking will be allowed on side streets adjacent to the firehouse. Parking will be available at Lake Shore Elementary School, and a shuttle bus will transport visitors to the station.

Bingo luncheon

Chesapeake Women's Club will have its fall bingo and luncheon fund-raiser Wednesday at Kurtz Pleasure Beach.

The doors will open at 11 a.m.

Admission is $5 and includes a luncheon platter and one bingo card. Additional cards will be on sale.

Proceeds will benefit the club's community projects.

Craft fair

Venice on the Bay Civic Association will sponsor a flea market and craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at its community hall, 1919 Arundel Road.

Tables are available for $10.

Food and refreshments will be sold.

Nursery program

Magothy Cooperative Nursery School, 3703 Mountain Road, has openings in its program for 3-year-olds.

The program is from 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The school offers parents the opportunity to work and play with their children in a school setting. Parents help out in the classroom two or three times a month, working with the teacher and three other adults.

JTC The nursery school will raise money this month by selling apple pies. School parents will prepare apple pies ready to be baked or tucked into the freezer for holiday baking.

Pies are $5.50 each, and orders must be placed by Oct. 18.
