Class will now come to order

Today's TV

Can a mediocre film be made into a good TV show? "Dangerous Minds" has already been the former; can it become the latter?

"Dangerous Minds" (8 p.m.-9 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Annie Potts (who's OK, but no Michelle Pfeiffer) is a teacher so good, so strong, so committed, you wonder if she's vulnerable to kryptonite. She also inhabits a fantasy world where she's able to stare down gang members and nonchalantly plant a kiss on the cheek of a sleeping student (wonder what the school-system lawyers in B'more would say). ABC.

"Cosby" (8 p.m.-8: 30 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Hilton (Bill Cosby) starts a neighborhood watch program, and installs himself as commander. CBS.

"Mr. Rhodes" (8: 30 p.m.-9 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- A movie star's daughter arrives at the school -- and in the fantasies of most of the male students. NBC.

"Pearl" (8: 30 p.m.-9 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Dr. Pynchon (Malcolm McDowell) has a brother?! CBS.

"Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?" (9 p.m.-11 p.m., WBAL, Channel 11) -- Chris, do I have to watch another Tori Spelling film? No and No. NBC.

"Party Girl" (9 p.m.-9: 30 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- The show's going on hiatus, so watch it while you can. Tonight, Mary (Christine Taylor) is determined to meet the boy of her dreams, but godmother/head librarian Swoosie Kurtz has other ideas. Fox.

"Cybill" (9: 30 p.m.-10 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Cybill and Maryann visit Japan, where Cybill has been hired as the spokeswoman for a car company. CBS.

"Lush Life" (9: 30 p.m.-10 p.m., WBFF, Channel 45) -- The show's been canceled, so watch it while you can. Tonight, Margo (Karyn Parsons) is determined to kick out her husband for good. He has other ideas. Fox.

Cable

"Silent Movie" (3 p.m-5 p.m., repeats 8 p.m.-10 p.m., Comedy Central) -- This "tribute" to silent films has its moments, but it's really no more than a Mel Brooks film without sound -- and not a very good one at that.
