DON'T BE frightened if you see witches and warlocks stealing into the Ferndale Senior Center Friday.

Their early October appearance will be members of the Friendly Thyme Herb Club getting into the spirit of things as they gather for the 10 a.m. monthly meeting.

"Not many of us are deep into witches, but it might be fun," said Richard Hood, president of the club, speaking about the Witches Garden that will be the theme of the meeting. Hood said many people may not be aware of the herbs that are associated with witches. The meeting should be educational as well as fun, he said.

Guests are invited. For information, call Hood at 799-4245.

North Glen bingo

Earlier this month, the North Glen Improvement Association resumed its weekly bingo games to raise money for the building fund. The games are at 7: 30 p.m. Mondays at the hall, Furnace Branch Road and Wellham Avenue.

No admission is charged. Paper bingo cards are sold in packages. Games include "Fill-the-Card," "You-Pick-Um" and "Lucky-7." The jackpot for each game is raised $5 each week until someone wins. Refreshments are available. You must be 18 to play.

Linda Lewis said bingo is the association's largest fund-raiser. All profits go toward maintaining the group's facilities.

"The building is getting a total face lift," she said, "We will be painting, cleaning chairs, putting strips around the hall so renters can hang things, buying new tables and doing a lot of outside work like weeding and painting signs."

She said helpers are needed in all areas, and the group welcomes volunteers.

A flea market scheduled Saturday has been postponed.

For information or to volunteer, call Lewis at 761-5391.

The Church of Christ, 2 Eastern Ave., Fernglen Manor, will hold a gospel meeting Oct. 6 to 11. Sunday worship services will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weekday services will begin at 7: 30 p.m.

Russell Dunaway of Columbus, Ohio, will speak at each service. Dunaway has been preaching 17 years.
