Jewelry, cash stolen from store

September 27, 1996

A gunman robbed a Glen Burnie department store Wednesday of an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry, county police said.

A man walked to the jewelry counter of the Alrenco store in the 7400 block of Ritchie Highway shortly before 4 p.m. and told a salesman he was looking for a ring for his wife, police said.

When the salesman showed him a ring and a bracelet, the man pulled up his shirt to reveal a blue, semiautomatic handgun stuck in his waistband and demanded "all the stuff" as he pulled out a green nylon bag and handed it to the salesman, police said.

After the salesman filled the bag with jewelry, the gunman demanded cash, police said.

The salesman complied, and the gunman ordered him to the ground, ran outside and drove north on Ritchie Highway in a black, four-door sedan, police said.

Police did not have a detailed description of the robber.
