Musical biography

"Thank God! The Beat Goes On," a biographical musical about and starring the singing group the Whispers, continues at the Lyric Opera House through Sunday.

The show also depicts the career of the late vocalist Phyllis Hyman, who is portrayed by her friend and fellow singer Alyson Williams. Veteran producer Barry Singer conceived the musical, which is written and directed by Loren Harper, who also supplied additional music.

Show times for "Thank God! The Beat Goes On" at the Lyric, 140 W. Mount Royal Ave., are 8 p.m. tonight through Saturday and 7: 30 p.m. Sunday, with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $17.50-$28.50. Call (410) 494-2712.
