Sykesville couple face drug charges

September 24, 1996

A Sykesville couple face drug-possession charges after state police from Westminster reported seizing nine mature marijuana plants and packaged marijuana on a search-and-seizure warrant, police said.

The barracks' Carroll County Drug Unit raided the home in the 1600 block of Andylin Way in Sykesville, accompanied by an investigator from the local state's attorney's office. The plants -- ranging in height from 8 to 12 feet -- were seized with about 3 pounds of suspected marijuana.

Linda Blackwell and Herbert Wayne Blackwell III, both of Andylin Way, were released without bail on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute it, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"Eight to 12 feet for a mature plant is not unusual," said Detective Sgt. Bruce Smith of the Westminster barracks.
