Elena 'Toots' Work, 91, clerical worker

Elena "Toots" Work, 91, a retired clerical worker who was active in Emmarts United Methodist Church, died Sept. 12 of Parkinson's disease at a group home in Dayton, where she had lived since 1993.

The longtime Ellicott City resident was employed by USF&G for more than 40 years and retired in 1969.

The former Elena Reynolds was born in Taylorsville and educated in Carroll County public schools. She was married to John Work, who died in 1980.

Services were held Sept. 16. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy R. Edwards, 64, BWI maintenance worker

Dorothy R. Edwards, 64, a maintenance worker at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, died Sept. 15 at Union Memorial Hospital of complications after surgery.

The former Dorothy R. Gordon was a Baltimore native and graduate of Frederick Douglass High School. She was married to George W. Edwards, who died in 1979.

Services were held Thursday.

She is survived by five sons, Glen Gordon, Ernest Knott, Craig Peterkin and Darryl and Michael Edwards, all of Baltimore; seven daughters, Patsy Thompson, Pauline Edwards, Karen Snead, Rose Elizabeth Byrd and LaTonya Pitts, all of Baltimore, Charlene Gordon of Upper Marlboro and Cheryl Cottrell of Charlottesville, Va.; two brothers, Christopher Columbus Jr. and James E. Gordon, both of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a special friend, Thomas Brown.
