Schwarz helps No. 13 Terps top No. 3 Iowa in field hockey No. 7 Maryland women beat Texas in soccer, 2-0

Carolyn Schwarz scored the game-winner midway through the second half to help No. 13 Maryland upset No. 3 Iowa, 2-1, yesterday in field hockey in College Park.

Schwarz also assisted Lynsey McVicker to give the Terps a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game.

The Hawkeyes, who outshot Maryland 22-10, tied the game at 1-1 when Kristen Holmes scored eight minutes before halftime.

Towson State 3, New Hampshire 1: Beth Chapman and Lauren Volk scored first-half goals two minutes apart to pace Towson State (4-1) over visiting New Hampshire (1-5).

Women's soccer

Maryland 2, Texas 0: Erin Taylor scored on a penalty kick with 27 minutes remaining and Emmy Harbo added an insurance goal 17 minutes later to lead No. 7 Maryland (8-0) over visiting Texas (3-2-2).

The Terps' eighth consecutive victory to begin the season ties the year-old Maryland record for wins to start a season.

Maryland outshot the Longhorns 10-2 in the second half.

Men's soccer

William & Mary 2, Navy 1: Waughn Hughes' goal with two seconds remaining in the first half lifted William & Mary over host Navy.

David Cuthbert put Navy ahead 1-0 with a goal eight minutes into the game.

Hughes helped the Tribe tie it with a score seven minutes left in the first half.
