Happy talk: According to Deloitte & Touche, most high-level executives surveyed by the management consulting firm recently believe there's a link between how well they treat their employees and how well their companies do. Eighty-four percent of the respondents saw a link between worker treatment and profitability, and 67 percent said their companies are making more of an effort than they were five years ago at balancing the needs of employees with those of customers and shareholders. One way to keep workers happy is to use teams in decision making, and 71 percent of the respondents said their companies use this approach.

Bottom line online: Inc Design, a graphics art company that designs annual reports, in a survey of about 75 big U.S. firms, found half are linking their annual reports to their home pages on the Web. The companies said their financial highlights and letter to shareholders are the two most frequently viewed sections of the annual report when it's online.
