On the field: Orioles third baseman Todd Zeile took third on a strange play in the third inning of the second game. Yankees starter David Cone whirled and threw to pick off Zeile -- but nobody was covering second. Cone's throw bounced off Zeile's back, ricocheted off second base umpire Ken Kaiser and rolled into short center field, and Zeile moved to third.
In the dugout: Two innings later, Brady Anderson was on second and Roberto Alomar on first when Cone, at the start of his delivery, turned on his right leg, paused for a moment and stared at Anderson -- a la Luis Tiant -- before throwing his pitch. Kaiser called a balk, prompting an argument with Yankees manager Joe Torre that ended with both men raging at each other.
