School and bank to open students' saving program

September 19, 1996

Manchester Elementary School and Carroll County Bank and Trust Co. will open the school's savings program during an assembly at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, state Treasurer Richard Dixon and bank officials are expected to attend the assembly. They will discuss the importance of savings and present awards to the winners of a contest to choose a name for the program.

The bank will open an "office" at the school Oct. 16, when students, with their parents' permission, can open an account with as little as $1 and make weekly deposits.

Fifth-grade students can apply as tellers at the school's bank office. Student tellers will work with bank tellers to collect and tabulate students' deposits and savings.
