Sylvia H. Levitz, 76, homemaker

Sylvia H. Levitz, a homemaker and longtime member of the Covenant Guild philanthropy, died Tuesday of leukemia at Cherrywood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Reisterstown. She was 76.

Mrs. Levitz also had been president of the Covenant Guild, an organization of 500 women who raise money for local charities.

She was born Sylvia Herman in Southwest Baltimore and was a 1938 graduate of Western High School.

She helped her mother operate the family's Cathedral Street sandwich shop, then married Abraham Levitz in 1940. She often worked with her husband, who owned Gwynn Kosher Meats in Northwest Baltimore. He died in 1979.

She was a member of Beth Tfiloh Congregation.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sol Levinson & Bros. Inc., 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville.

Survivors include a son, Baltimore County Circuit Judge Dana M. Levitz of Stevenson; a daughter, Robin Schless of Baltimore; and two sisters, Carole Altman of Seattle and Karmen Brower of Haddonfield, N.J.
