Sand Gnats beat Shorebirds for S. Atlantic title

SALISBURY -- The Savannah Sand Gnats won the South Atlantic League title last night, sweeping a doubleheader from the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Sand Gnats clinched the best-of-five championship series, three games to one, by winning the nightcap, 4-1.

The Sand Gnats, a Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, had taken a 2-1 series lead with a 3-1 victory in 13 innings in the first game last night.

Savannah's Eric Stuckenschneider won the opener with a decisive two-run triple off reliever Jason Cole.
