Olde Brooklyn Park group to begin meetings Tuesday

THE OLDE Brooklyn Park Improvement Association will begin its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, 200 14th Ave.

Members will get updates on the Baltimore-Anne Arundel water mains, planned improvements for Ritchie Highway to the city line, and information on the services and agencies now in the old Brooklyn Park High School on Hammonds Lane.

Speakers will include representatives from the Police Department, Department of Aging, health center, DARE Program/Take Back Our Streets and elected officials.

Annual dues of $4 a family will be collected.

Golf, tennis tournament

Harbor Hospital Center will have its annual golf and tennis tournament, HarborOpen '96, tomorrow at Sparrows Point Country Club.

Proceeds will benefit the hospital's Women's and Infant's Center, which is under construction. The entry fee for golf is $200 a person and $100 a person for tennis. The fee includes lunch and an awards banquet. Registration begins at 10: 30 a.m., followed by lunch and a shotgun start for golfers.

Tennis matches will be scheduled throughout the afternoon.

Prizes will be awarded to the top golf and tennis players. All participants will receive commemorative HarborOpen gifts. Information: 347-3625.

In honor of Adult Day Care Week, the hospital will have a free seminar for seniors and caregivers of all ages from 6: 30 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Thursday at the Harbor Adult Health Care Center, across the street from the hospital.

There will be tours and discussions on options for long-term care. Several experts in the field of aging will address topics such as nursing, home care, choosing a nursing home, financing long-term care and other options. Refreshments will be served. Belle Grove Homework Club

The Belle Grove Elementary School Homework Club will meet in the library from 2: 30 p.m. to 3: 30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning this week.

Students may work on homework or get assistance in classwork. A signed permission slip is needed for children to participate.

Beginning Thursday, the Math Club will meet from 2: 30 p.m. to 3: 30 p.m. in the library. Students may come to the library to work on improving math skills. Teachers will offer assistance in all areas of math for first through sixth grades. A signed permission slip is needed.

Storytime at library

Children between the ages of 2 and 6 are invited to attend Storytime at the Brooklyn Park Library at 7 p.m. Tuesdays or at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, beginning this week.

Children will be treated to stories, music, flannel-boards and crafts. Parents and caregivers must accompany 2- and 3-year-olds.

PTA/CAC executive board

The Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Schools PTA/CAC executive board will meet at 6: 30 p.m. Tuesday. Back-to-school night will start at 7 p.m. Parents are invited to follow their child's schedule and meet teachers to hear about curriculum and goals. Be sure to bring a copy of your child's schedule.

North County CAC

The North County High School CAC will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrowin the office conference room. Community members and parents are invited.

The first band parents meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Band Room. Band parents will sponsor a fund-raiser from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Roy Rogers in Cromwell Field Shopping Center, B & A Boulevard. Twenty percent of all the sales during that time will be donated to the band's general fund.

The band also will sponsor a free car wash from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday behind Little Caesar's in Ritchie Highway Shopping Center and at Roy Rogers in Burwood Plaza. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Early dismissal

A reminder: All Anne Arundel County public schools will have a two-hour early dismissal Wednesday for teachers' in-service training.

Class of 1971 reunion

Brooklyn Park High School Class of 1971 will have its 25-year reunion from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Comfort Inn, B & Boulevard and Belle Grove Road.

A hot and cold buffet will be served, and music will be provided by a disc jockey. Tickets are $30 a person and must be reserved before Oct. 11.
