Homebuyers can search for a new home from the Ryland Group Inc. on the company's new Web site, unveiled to the public last week.

By visiting the site, consumers can look for a home in more than 300 communities throughout the country or find out how much house they can afford.

Buyers can search by state, geographical area, price and house type.

"Consumers have at their fingertips access to information about the different aspects of the communities, the design features of the homes, and what homes are available in their price range,` said David Heneberry, Ryland's vice president of marketing.

Personalized home searches are possible because the site is supported by a comprehensive database.

Ryland included a mortgage calculator in the "Financing Your Home" section. Consumers can fill in the appropriate financial data, and the spreadsheet automatically calculates roughly how much they can afford to spend.

The Columbia-based homebuilder will be continually adding information and updating existing sections. Coming online in the near future will be listings of grand openings of new communities, homes available for immediate delivery and tips for homeowners.

Ryland is one of the nation's largest homebuilders and has its own mortgage-finance company.

Founded in 1967, Ryland has built more than 130,000 homes and currently operates in 26 cities.
