Watson Wyatt Worldwide, a management consulting firm, said yesterday that it will move its corporate offices and 200 jobs -- with the prospect of 300 more to come later -- from Washington to Bethesda.

Watson Wyatt signed a 3 1/2 -year lease on 60,000 square feet of space in Rock Spring Park in Bethesda.

It leaves another facility with 300 workers in Washington, but the company said it wants to find a site that will house both offices by 1998.

A few weeks ago Wellspring Resources, a jointly owned subsidiary of Watson Wyatt and State Street Boston Corp., announced plans to relocate its Washington operations and 275 employees to another building in Rock Spring Park.

Watson Wyatt comes to Maryland with an $800,000 package from the state's Sunny Day economic development fund. Virginia and Washington also competed to land the company.

"These positive developments are a direct reflection of Maryland's increasingly pro-business climate and positive national reputation as a great place to do business," Gov. Parris N. Glendening said in a prepared statement.
