Playful sculptures

ART

September 12, 1996

Marvin Weis' playful, painted sculptures combine form and image in a way that almost has to make you smile. When he closes his eyes, he says, "I see images in vivid detail, sometimes in full color. . . . My closed eye images have slowly evolved and have become interwoven with current events, both political and social."

Works by Weis, who calls himself a contemporary folk artist, are on display at Towson State University.

The show at the University Union Gallery runs through Oct. 18. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Call (410) 830-ARTS.
