MacKenzie lands in Senior quarters

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Clark MacKenzie was 1-over par for 34 holes, scoring two 3-and-1 victories, and reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship yesterday.

MacKenzie, 55, a resident of Lutherville and member of Green Spring Valley Hunt Club making his first appearance in this event, defeated Jack Kinley of Des Moines, Iowa, in the morning and Jim McMurtrey of Danville, Calif., in the afternoon.

This morning, MacKenzie, at the top half of the lower draw, will play Heyward Sullivan, a recovering heart patient from Greenville, S.C.

Oriole tournament

Young Yim of Maryland Golf & Country Club used the day's best net score for her home course, a 73, as a springboard to the championship at the Women's Golf Association event.

She shot 75-73148, trailed by first-round leader and club mate Kyung Im, 74-77151.
