Woman given 18-month term for child abuse

September 11, 1996

An Eldersburg woman accused of having sex with a friend's 13-year-old son while she was caring for him last year was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in jail.

In accordance with a plea arrangement, county Circuit Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr. sentenced her to five years in state prison but suspended all but 18 months and will allow Victoria M. Eberwein, 25, of the 5300 block of Wendy Road to serve the term at the county Detention Center.

Upon being released, Eberwein will be on five years' probation. The judge also ordered her to undergo psychiatric counseling, and have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Eberwein pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse Jan. 18. Charges of second-degree rape and related sexual offenses were dropped in exchange for the plea.

The boy, now 14, is not being identified to protect his privacy.
