Fire destroys car in front of Laurel home

A fire early yesterday destroyed a 1973 Ford Ranchero parked in the 10900 block of Hillcrest Drive in Laurel, the State Fire Marshal said.

Investigators think a discarded cigarette landed in the back seat cushion of the vehicle, causing the 3 a.m. fire. Damage was put at about $3,000.

The fire was ruled accidental.

Savage: 7400 block of Assateague Drive: A white female was approached early Saturday morning by someone she knew, who demanded money from her in a parking lot.

Savage: 9700 block of Country Meadows Lane: A white 1988 Honda with Illinois tags AING66 was taken between 10 a.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday.

Scaggsville: Gorman Road at Johns Hopkins Road: Someone attempted to steal a green 1992 Ford Mustang between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

Savage: 10800 block of Guilford Road: A white 1995 Chevrolet van, Maryland tags 71C137, was stolen between 9: 30 p.m. Wednesday and 6: 30 a.m. Thursday.
