New positions

Duerling named manager of McCormick purchasing

McCormick & Co., the international firm specializing in spices, seasonings and specialty foods headquartered in Hunt Valley, has announced the selection of Karen M. Duerling as its purchasing manager. She will be responsible for noninventory purchases such as capital equipment, construction and lease activities for several McCormick locations. A graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, the Westminster resident is a member of the National Association of Purchasing Management and is a certified purchasing manager.

Villa Julie College selects Tracy R. Bolt as registrar

Villa Julie College in Stevenson has appointed Tracy R. Bolt to the position of registrar. A resident of Millersville, she is a magna cum laude graduate of Clemson University and was formerly registrar at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina.

Leslie Bender to direct Empowerment Center

Empower Baltimore Management Corp. has chosen Leslie Bender as executive director of its newly formed Business Empowerment Center. The center will implement strategies for the city's Empowerment Zone economic initiatives. Before joining EBMC, she was regional manager for government lending programs at NationsBank. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and has a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.


TSU graduate appointed PR account coordinator

Chesapeake Communications Group has named Kelly Lanier as account coordinator for the Towson-based public relations agency. A Carroll County resident, she is a recent graduate of Towson State University, with a degree in mass communications. She has held public affairs internships with WMAR-TV and Renegade Productions.

Commercial real estate

Hicks & Rotner names C. Hamlin vice president

Hicks & Rotner Retail has announced the appointment of Carole B. Hamlin as vice president. She will oversee the sale and leasing of retail space for the Baltimore-Washington commercial real estate firm. Previously with the brokerage firm of Trout, Segall & Doyle, the Baltimore resident is a graduate of Goucher College and the University of Maryland School of Law. Among her responsibilities will be the overseeing of leasing activity at several area shopping malls.
