Junior Bandits roster is chosen

September 04, 1996|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Junior Bandits team has been chosen from the area's best hockey players between 14 and 19, and now the real work begins, say coach Pete Roe and general manager Dave Morehouse.

"With only four or five practice sessions before our first game, we've got a lot of work to do on our conditioning," said Roe, "and it's a particularly hectic time with some of our kids away trying out for major Junior A teams.

"Also, some players will be with us only part time, as they're heading off to college or prep school."

The roster will number about 30 from a tryout list well in excess of 100. Besides a half-dozen practices and a scrimmage just beforethe final cut, candidates underwent strength, agility and body-fat testing and, overall, did not fare well against national averages.

Most of the Junior Bandits' opponents , beginning with the New Jersey Junior Rockets at 5: 45 p.m. Sept. 14 and 9 a.m. Sept. 15 at Ice World, are experienced teams from the Northeast and eastern Canada.

The squad:

Forwards (14): Dave Bauguess, Kwante Carter, Justin Roe, Erek Dixon, Chris Budy, Chet Sadowski, Brendan McGrath, Zach Adams, Joshua Smith, Dan Callahan, Shawn Montague, Kevin Markey, Neil Buckleiter, Dom DeSantis.

Defensemen (14): Sebastiani Hart, Justin Abshire, Gene Battista, Mike Morehouse, John Naples, Dan Nash, Eric Dudenbostel, Lee Simkins, Bill Visnansky, Brian Thompson, Joe Cremen, James Ord, Mark Russo, Mike Holmes.

Goalies (3): Jason Wolff, Adam Kerner, Mike Rusch or Greg Mason.
